Unit 5: Using Pictures, Part C

Before you watch:

What might you do with a blank sheet of paper in the classroom? Can you come up with some ideas?

After you watch:

Note the rich use of language in this activity. Why is the activity so successful in this regard? How is this activity different from, say, describing a picture from a magazine?

What do you think about the other ideas offered by Bill and the other participants for variations on this activity and other similar ones?

In the second video segment, Hangtae suggests that creative and imaginative activities such as these need not be restricted to advanced learners, but can be used at lower levels too. Do you agree? How might you design tasks that draw on lower level learners’ creativity and imagination?
