The exciting new series of Maximizing Study Abroad guidebooks
helps students, program professionals, and language instructors make the
most of study abroad opportunities through strategies for language and
culture learning and use. Research is currently being conducted
to determine the effectiveness of these targeted support materials on
study abroad outcomes.

Research on the Effectiveness
of the Guides
A comprehensive study (2002–2005) looked at the effectiveness
of the Maximizing Study Abroad guides on improving students'
strategies for language and culture learning and use and the ways
in which the materials were used by program professionals and language
instructors. An extensive
report of the research findings is available as PDF file.
Maximizing Study Abroad: A Workshop for Professionals
Built around the Maximizing Study Abroad: A Students' Guide to Strategies for Language and Culture Learning and Use and its companion Instructional Guide, this workshop will feature a variety of experiential activities, group discussions, and presentations on theory and research, with a focus on their practical application.
