CARLA: Center for Advanced Research on Language Acquisition

SOLPHE 2025 was a great success! Over 240 language educators participated in this free, online symposium hosted by CARLA on October 3–4, 2025. The University of Alabama, with support from the American Association of University Supervisors and Coordinators (AAUSC), will host SOLPHE 2026.

CARLA collaborated with ACTFL to create a toolkit filled with practical materials that educators can use to plan for and implement a language program evaluation. Three sections guide educators through the process of planning, gathering data, and reporting findings. 

In 2025, over 210 language educators from 37 states and Washington D.C. and 9 countries outside the U.S. participated in the 30th annual CARLA Summer Institute program. To date, CARLA has offered 327 summer institutes to a total of 8,193 language educators from all 50 states and 75 countries/US territories!
