Language Resource Centers
CARLA is one of 16 Title
VI Language Resource Centers funded through
the U.S. Department of Education.
The purpose of the Language Resource Centers is to:
- establish, strengthen and operate national language resource and training centers
- improve the nation's capacity to teach and learn foreign languages effectively
- disseminate information about foreign language teaching and learning
Led by nationally and internationally recognized language professionals, the LRCs create language-learning materials, offer professional development workshops, and conduct research on foreign language learning. While some of the LRCs concentrate on specific language areas, other LRCs direct their attention to foreign languages in general.
In 2015, the LRCs together updated a booklet that highlights the work of all of the LRCs around the country. It includes overviews of each of the centers supported by Title VI funding, including CARLA. (Click on the graphic at right to download a PDF of the brochure).
Language Resource Centers Joint Website
The LRCs also sponsor a joint website site that provides information on materials and professional development opportunities across all of the centers.
