Language Resource Centers

CARLA was one of 16 Title VI Language Resource Centers funded through the U.S. Department of Education from 1993–2018.

The purpose of the Language Resource Centers is to:

  • establish, strengthen and operate national language resource and training centers
  • improve the nation's capacity to teach and learn foreign languages effectively
  • disseminate information about foreign language teaching and learning

Led by nationally and internationally recognized language professionals, the LRCs create language-learning materials, offer professional development workshops, and conduct research on foreign language learning. While some of the LRCs concentrate on specific language areas, other LRCs direct their attention to foreign languages in general.
