Unit Overview:

Based on material supplied by the French government for their annual "week of sustainable growth", students will study issues related to the environment.  In this context they will discuss strategies for conservation elaborated in the French materials, analyze cultural viewpoints evidenced in the materials, and see if they differ in presentation or in content from those prevalent in the U.S.

Context:

Our university has included in its planning policy a concern for the environment and sustainable growth by appointing an environmental officer at a high administrative level.  More and more attention is being given to conservation, "green buildings", and environmental awareness.  This is evidenced in everyday life on campus.  Faculty seminars are developing ideas for expanding and exploring this in the curriculum.
