Situation 1: Sample Dialogue 1

(The parts in red are the request statement you've been asked to write down.)

友達A:あ、ともだ。おーい、とも。  A, Tomoda.  Ooi, Tomo.  ‘Oh, there goes Tomo. Hey, Tomo.’

友達B:あ、なに?  A, nani?  ‘Yeah?’

友達A:あのさ、  Anosa‘Well,’

友達B:うん。  Un‘Yeah.’

友達A:先週の国際関係の授業、出た?  Senshuuno kokusai kankeino jugyou, deta‘Did you attend the international relations class last week?’

友達B:うん、出たよ。  Un, detayo‘Yeah, I did.’

友達A:そん時 にやっぱ、ノートとかとったりしてるよね。  Sontokini yappa, nouto toka tottari shiteruyone‘Of course you took notes, didn’t you?’

友達B:うん、とってるよ、いつも。  Un, totteruyo, itsumo‘Yeah, I always take notes.’

友達A:来週、テストじゃん。  Raishuu, tesutojan.  ‘We have a test next week, right?’

友達B:うん。  Un‘Right.’

友達A:で、おれ、この前かぜで休んじゃってさ。ピンチなんだよね。できれば、かしてもらえないかな、ノート。  De, ore, kono mae kazede yasunjattesaPinchi nan dayoneDekireba, kashite moraenaikana, nouto‘I missed the class last time because of a cold.  I’m in a bind.  If it’s okay, can you lend me your notes?

友達B:え、私字きたないよ。  E, watashi ji kitanaiyo.  ‘What, my handwriting is horrible.’

友達A:そんなことないって。もう、まじきれい。  Sonnakoto naitte.  Mou, maji kirei.  ‘No way, it’s real neat.’

友達B:ほんと?  Honto?  ‘Really?’

友達A:いい?  Ii?  ‘Is it okay?’

友達B:うん、いいけど。  Un, iikedo‘Yeah, Okay.’

友達A:すぐさ、あの、生協でコピーとって返すからさ。  Sugusa, ano, seikyoude kopi totte kaesu karasa‘I’ll copy them  in the co-op and return them to you right away.’

友達B:うん、わかった。  Un, wakatta‘All right.’

友達A:じゃあ、ちょっと借りてくね。ありがとう。  Jaa, chotto karitekune.  ‘Then, Could I please have them?  Thanks.’

友達B:はーい。  Haai.  ‘Yep.’

友達A:またね。  Matane.  ‘Later.’
