Five to six 50 minute class sessions

Unit Overview:

This unit asks the students to think about music as a cultural phenomenon, specific to this lesson in the United States. Students will analyze their personal music choices. Students are asked to use the same analytical skills to arrive at conclusion about music in the Hispanic culture. The final CD jacket cover marketing a Hispanic artist to U.S. culture will give students the opportunity to incorporate what they have learned.

Extensions:
· Complete the lesson in the lower levels in English.
· Have students display CD Cover Projects to a wider audience, i.e. in school at special presentation, have them create websites with the information and share with the world.

· Students can e-mail students in Spanish speaking and ask about the music they like to listen to.
· Students can write the fan club of researched artist and ask about music and artist.

· Students can create a PowerPoint presentation with the information they have gathered
· Students can create a website and publish their CD covers for a larger audience
