Four to five 50-minute periods
Students participating in this unit will learn the fundamentals of the Russian alphabet, its sound system, basic vocabulary and grammar, an introduction to Russian’s case system, and the use of cognates found in English and Russian as a study skill. Students will learn basic Russian geography, Russia’s global orientation, as well as learn to express personal orientation within a place, and skills for locating common city landmarks.
This lesson unit is designed for very beginning Russian classes. It is designed for students with no prior knowledge of the Russian language, the Cyrillic alphabet, or its sound system. Students may have limited knowledge of Russian geography.
