Unit Overview:

Music is a high interest area to high school students.  Using the annual Latin Grammys as a basis, pairs of students will each choose a different nominee from a list compiled by the teacher, research that artist/group and type of music, and the country represented in order to create a PowerPoint presentation.

Context:

Students have been taught the simple past tense (preterite) in their Spanish II class.  They have also had some exposure to music vocabulary (various common instruments).  They have had contact with some popular groups/artists though passive listening as well as some cloze activities in class.  Students will build on their knowledge/use of the preterite tense, both orally as well as in writing.  In addition, they will increase their music-related vocabulary (instruments, styles of Latin music).
