A mnemonic phrase

Marcela demonstrates how to form the endings of verbs using the imperfect subjunctive:

  1. Start with the third person preterite of the verb (e.g., bebieron).
  2. Take off the –ron
  3. Add the ending –ra, so you have bebiera

She explains that you can remember this procedure by remembering the expression "Stop drinking and start cheerleading."  She explains her mnemonic phrase this way: “Stop drinking ron, which is 'rum' in Spanish. ...we take off the –ron and then we start cheerleading...we add the –ra on the endin place of the 'rum.'   So you think 'ra ra ra.'  You think of a cheerleader."
