Social Justice in Language Education

This initiative aims to improve teachers’ understanding and application of critical pedagogies as they teach social justice themes.

Initiative Overview

The Social Justice in Language Education initiative was developed to address the important need for professional development and instructional materials anchored in social justice and critical pedagogies.

This presentation provides insights into three LCTL teachers’ conceptualizations of social justice in language education based on their participation in a curriculum development project.

This workshop will empower educators to reflect on their own identities and lead students in doing the same, moving beyond superficial cultural lessons to cultivate critical consciousness and social change. The workshop is free for world language educators who work in the United States at the middle school, high school, and postsecondary/adult level on a first-come, first-served basis.
