The Gaeltacht
In this lesson we will explore information available on-line from several Gaeltacht regions in Ireland.
Introductory questions
- What is a Gaeltacht?
- What do you expect it to be like?
- Is Irish found outside the Gaeltacht at all?
- Where are the Gaeltachtaí in Ireland? Locate them on the map in class and underline the counties they are in on the map below.
Now go to the page Gaeilge ar an Ghréasán on the WWW.
Scan the Table of Contents. Under which entry are you most likely to find information on Irish speaking regions? What else besides the Gaeltacht pages can you identify?
By clicking on each entry you will have access to each Gaeltacht's homepage in turn. As you explore these pages and those linked to them, look for answers to the following questions.
