Invited Presentation: 21st-Century Technologies and Language Education: Where Multiliteracies Fit In
This presentation will review important changes in texts and literacy over the past few decades, consider some of the challenges that AI presents to language teachers, and propose some ideas for working creatively with AI in ways that further learners' literacy as well as language abilities.

Rick Kern is Professor of French at the University of California at Berkeley. His research interests include language acquisition, literacy, and relationships between language and technology. Recent publications include "Twenty-first century technologies and language education: Charting a path forward" (Modern Language Journal), "Literacies for Teachers" (The Cambridge Handbook of Technology in Language Teaching and Learning), and "Where, When, and How French is Learned" (The Oxford Handbook of the French Language).
