CARLA Presentation: Secondary Spanish Dual Language Immersion Curricular Units: Integrating Content and Language

This practical presentation will provide an overview of three secondary Spanish dual language immersion curricular units available for educators as a component of CARLA’s Secondary Dual Language Immersion Initiative. The curricular units serve as educative resources to demonstrate how secondary DLI teachers can integrate explicit language instruction within content-focused units. Participants will leave the presentation with familiarity with the resources as well as actionable ideas for using them as tools in their own secondary DLI programs.

Cory Mathieu (Ph.D., University of Minnesota) is an Assistant Professor of Multilingual Education at Western Washington University. She is also the leader of CARLA’s Secondary DLI Initiative. Her current research explores materials use in secondary dual language as well as state-level bilingual education policy.
