Unit Overview:

Students will learn about various landforms. They will then learn about various social concepts and institutions such as economy (services, free enterprise, taxes, importing, exporting), industry, government, natural resources (renewable and non-renewable), conservation, consumerism, climate, agriculture (commercial and sustainable), suburban/urban/rural areas. Next they will learn about New England by studying the regions specific characteristics (such as folliage) and by applying learned landforms, concepts, and institutions. Finally, students will learn about the mid-Atlantic region using a similar method.

Context:

Students are already familiar with some landforms such as rivers, mountains, deserts, cliffs, volcanos, islands, lakes, oceans, hills, and forests. They will learn about other landforms such as buttes, isthmuses, peninsulas, plateaus, bays, glaciers, canyons, marshes, and channels.
