Six -84 minute class periods
Students will gain an understanding of how interconnected we are as part of a global community. Students will learn new vocabulary related to Global Studies and begin to use these terms with each other. They will participate in a simulation activity, reflect, do group work and internet research. Scaffolded instruction will be provided to help students complete their first essay for the semester about some aspect of global interdependence. This essay will be the final assessment for this unit.
Global Studies is an elective Spanish Immersion Social Studies course open to students in grades 9-12 at Highland Park. This is the first unit of the 18 week course and an introduction to global interdependence. Following this unit there will be 5 three-week long units on the Politics of Power; Sustainability of the Population and the Environment; Population: Migration and Diaspora; Global Conflict and Cooperation; and Globalization of the Economy.
