Unit Overview:

The students will examine the culture of their school, compare their own school culture with a school from a Spanish-speaking country. The students will produce a PowerPoint presentation or web page in Spanish designed to act as an orientation for Spanish-speaking students new to Jackson County Central High School, with the goal of helping ease their transition to a new school culture. Students will also exchange emails with students in a Spanish-speaking school or interview international students to compare school cultures.

Context:

This unit will be used in a Spanish III class. Students will have completed the CoBaLTT Unit "Más allá del Lago Wobegon" from the CoBaLTT web site prior to starting this unit. By completing that unit first students will have knowledge of concepts and vocabulary that will allow them to examine the culture of their high school. Most students had some experience using the PowerPoint program and required minimal assistance. I had to learn how to save that program as HTML and how to link various PowerPoint programs. The district technology person found a place for the finished web page on the school server.
