Twenty class sessions of 50 minutes each
The unit consists of five lessons to be completed in four to five weeks. The students will recall previously learned vocabulary and acquire new vocabulary to enable them to describe their personal school experience and to learn about the German school system.  Following a number of scaffolding activities for content learning and language acquisition, students will create a product describing their own school that could be used as an introduction or orientation for German speaking exchange students.
This unit is designed for a beginning level class in the second semester.  It is intended to be part of one of several units in which students learn and use vocabulary relative to particular themes in their personal lives to enable them to compare and contrast their personal experience with that of German speaking peoples.  The students will recall previously learned vocabulary and acquire new vocabulary to enable them to describe their school experience and to learn about the German school system. The class has been taught with the TPRS methodology and has already acquired some of the vocabulary needed for the class.  A list of previously acquired vocabulary needed for the unit is included as an attachment.
