One introductory day (partial class) and six 50-minute periods.
This unit is divided into seven lessons, beginning with an introductory lesson. Each of the next four days will focus on a work of art by a different 20th century Hispanic artist: Pablo Picasso, Frida Kahlo, Salvador Dalí and Carmen Lomas Garza. Each work of art is representative of the artist's work, as well as an important 20th century artistic movement. On the sixth day, students will view and work with other paintings by the same four artists. Students will present their original works of art and be assessed on the seventh day.
This is a second semester class. As such, students will have studied/learned the present indicative and present progressive tenses, descriptive adjectives (including colors) with agreement, prepositions of place, clothing and furniture vocabulary, and emotions. Some students (those who were in my sections of Spanish 1) may also have been previously introduced to the works of art in the unit as the basis for learning the grammar and vocabulary listed above.
