Using different verb conjugations instead of the present progressive

Megan recognizes that for her it’s easier to use the estar + gerund form rather than to choose the correct conjugation of different verbs.

“I tend to lean back on the estar and then the gerund, for example "Estoy perdiendo algo" ‘I’m losing something.’  “I think that a lot of times it’s easier to do that than to think of the actual conjugation to use, whether it’s past, present, future…”

When Megan did some volunteer interpreting, she realized that practicing avoidance just wasn’t an option.

“Interpreting is forcing me to kind of get out of that avoidance strategy because you can’t really avoid certain things. You have to interpret them and you have to interpret them with their true meaning.”
