Exercise 1: Requests

 

Situation 1: Sample Dialogue 2

 

 (The parts in red are the request statement you've been asked to write down.)

友達A:お願いがあるんだけど。  Onegaiga arun dakedo.  ‘I have a favor of you.’

 

友達B:なに?  Nani?  ‘What is it?’

 

友達A:私さ、先週授業休んだのね、ずっと病気だったから。  Watashisa, senshuu jugyou yasundanone, zutto byouki datakara.  ‘I missd last week’s class.  I was sick all week.’

 

友達B:うん。  Un.  ‘Yeah.’

 

友達A:それでね、ノートがないんだ、授業のノートが。  Soredene, nooto ga nainda, jugyouno nootoga.  ‘So, I don’t have the notes, I mean, class notes.’

 

友達B:それ、困ってるね。  Sore, komatterune.  ‘You are in trouble.’

 

友達A:で、もしよかったら、いつもあの、ともちゃん、ほら、ノートきちんととってるから、ちょっと見せてもらえないかなー、と思って。  De moshi yokattara, itsumo ano, Tomo chan, hora, nooto kichinto totteru kara, chotto misete morae naikanaa, to omotte.   ‘So, if it’s all right, Tomo, since you always take good notes, I thought maybe you’d lend me your notes.’

 

友達B:いいよ。  Iiyo.  ‘OK.’

 

友達A:いい?  Ii?  ‘OK?’

 

友達B:うん。いつ?  Un.  Itsu?  ‘Sure, when?’

 

友達A:あの、じゃ、あの、もしよかったら、今晩貸してもらえる?  Ano, ja, ano, moshi yokattara, konban kashite moraeru?  ‘Well, then, if it’s okay, how about tonight?’

 

友達Bあ、ほんと、いつまで  A, honto, itsumade?   ‘OK, how long do you want them for?’

 

友達A:あの、明日返すから。  Ano, ashita kaesu kara.  ‘I’ll give them back tomorrow.’

 

友達B:あ、ほんと、じゃあいいよ。貸してあげる。  A, honto, jaa iiyo.  Kashite ageru.  ‘OK.  Sure, you can take them.’

 

友達A:ほんと?ありがとう、助かる。  Honto?  Arigatou, tasukaruyo.  ‘Really?  Thanks.  You saved my life.’

 

友達B:ううん。  Uun.  ‘No problem.’

 

友達A:うーん、ありがと。  Uun, arigato.  ‘All right, thanks again.’
