Exercise 4: Evaluating Request Expressions -1

Imagine that you would just like to borrow a pen for a second. Look at the expressions on the left and match them with the most likely recipient of these requests on the right.

There are a number of ways to make a request in Japanese as in any language, and it is important to be able to judge when and to whom you should use them. For example, "Odenwa shite kudasai masuka?" would be appropriate to say to your instructor you don't know very well, but it would sound so polite or distant to the ears of a close friend that your friend may think you were being sarcastic!
