Exercise 6: Refusals

Situation 2: Dialogue 2

友達A: あ、みかちゃん、グラス空いてるね。もう少しなんか頼もうか、飲み物?  A, Mika-chan, gurasu aiterune.  Mou sukoshi nanka tanomouka, nomimono?  ‘Mika, your glass is empty.  Do you want me to order you some more to drink?’

友達B: あ、いいよ、いいよ、もう今日はいっぱい飲んだから。  A, iiyo, iiyo.  Mou kyouwa ippai nonda kara.  ‘Oh, no, no.  I’ve had a lot today.’

友達A: そんなこと言わないで、ウーロン茶でもどう  Sonna koto iwanaide, uuroncha demo dou ?  ‘Come on, how about uuron tea or something?’

友達B: ううん、大丈夫。もういい。  Uun, daijoubu.  Mou ii.  ‘No, thanks.  I’m done.’

友達A: ほんとに?うん、そうか。じゃあさ、甘いデザートなんかどうかな?  Hontoni?  Un, souka.  Jaasa, amai dezaato nanka doukana?  ‘Really, okay.  Then, how about some dessert?’

友達B: うん、ありがとう。でも、おなかいっぱいだから、食べられないと思うし、いいよ。  Un, arigatou.  Demo, onaka ippai dakara, taberarenaito omoushi, iiyo.  ‘Thanks, but I’m so full I don’t think I can eat anything.’

友達A: そうか、うん、じゃあこのへんでいいかな。  Souka, un, jaa kono hende iikana?  ‘All right, we are probably done, then.’

友達B: うん。  Un.  ‘Yeah.’
