Exercise 6: Refusals

Situation 2: Dialogue 2

The parts in red are the refusal expressions.  The parts in blue are other important supporting strategies.

友達A: あれ、もう終わり?もっと頼んだらいいのに。  Are, mou owari?  Motto tanondara iinoni.  ‘Oh, that’s it?  Why don’t you order more?’

友達B: うん、もうこれで今日は十分。  Un, mou korede kyouwa juubun.  ‘No, I’ve had enough for now.’

友達A: えー、今日は僕持ちだからさ、もう、どんどんいってよ、もっと。  Ee, kyouwa boku mochi dakarasa, mou dondon itteyo, motto.  ‘It’s on me today, so go for it.’

友達B: いや、もうけっこう飲んだし。  Iya, mou kekkou nondashi.  ‘No, I already drank a lot.’

友達A: えー、うそでしょ。もういいの?  Ee, uso desho.  Mou iino?  ‘Are you kidding?  No more?’

友達B: うん、ほんとにもうおなかいっぱいだよ、今日は。  Un, hontoni mou onaka ippaidayo, kyouwa.  ‘Yeah, I’m really full now.’

友達A: そう。  Sou.  ‘Really?’

友達B: うん。 Un.  ‘Yeah.’
