Introduction to "The Sounds of Mandarin"
This series on the Sounds of Mandarin combines:
- Pictures - from authentic materials used in China
- Writing - pinyin, the official transcription system of the PRC
- Sounds - 1,155 speeches recorded by a native speaker
- Exercises/Exam - listening discrimination and transcription
- Answers to Exercises - providing immediate feedback
This module has been developed by:

You can download the entire PowerPoint slide show, which includes 155 slides, sounds of all consonants and vowels, and exercises. To run this program, you need your own copy of PowerPoint, from Microsoft.
