LCTL Course Offerings

From this page you can search our database on schools in North America that teach Less Commonly Taught Languages (LCTLs). Typing two words or selecting two checkboxes in one category will give you only the records that have both of them.

One of the main objectives of the Less Commonly Taught Languages Project is to track information on locations in North America where students can study specific less commonly taught languages. Our database contains information on course offerings for over 300 languages at more than 2,000 colleges and universities in North America, and at elementary, middle and high schools. More than 25 Less Commonly Taught Languages are listed on the distance ed database of credit courses. We encourage the submission of summer courses and will list them promptly.

For each language at each institution, we provide (where possible) the name, address, phone, fax, and e-mail address of a contact person. Please be advised that the contact person is not necessarily the language teacher, but instead may be a department chair or administrator.

A NOTE ON ACCURACY
While CARLA tries to keep the LCTL databases up-to-date, we rely on the institutions to contact us when changes to their LCTL course offerings are made and to reply to our periodic requests to update their information. Because of the reliance on other institutions and the ever-changing face of language instruction in North America, neither CARLA nor the University of Minnesota guarantees that this information is accurate. However, we sincerely hope that you will find these databases useful in your search for information on where LCTLs are taught in North America.

You can help us keep these databases accurate and up-to-date. If you would like to suggest a correction or addition to the information in our databases, you can use the online correction form (changes made subject to a LCTL staff review). We always welcome comments about our databases and other LCTL Project services. If you would like information in another format (for example, print, disk, or by institution), contact the LCTL Project at:
