Accommodations

All options listed below are within walking distance of the Institutes and the East Bank campus of the University of Minnesota. For each of them, you will need to identify the CARLA Summer Institutes to receive a discount. There are many activities around the University in the summer, so book your accommodations early! Wales Guest House

This delightful cooperative guest house is within walking distance of the University campus (7 blocks from Institute sites). Breakfast is included and a kitchen is available for guest use. Some rooms have private bathrooms and others are shared. This has been a very popular choice for Summer Institute participants in the past, so be sure to reserve a room early. The deadline is April 1, 2009, but earlier reservations are highly recommended.

Days Hotel University

The Days Inn Hotel is a popular and modestly-priced housing option for institute participants. It includes a continental breakfast, a shuttle van service, and high-speed internet connections. The Days Inn University is located 6-10 blocks from the site of the Institutes. Must book at least 30 days prior to institute and ask for the CARLA Summer Institute group rate.

Radisson University Hotel

The Radisson University Hotel is a four-star hotel located on the U of MN campus. It is a short walk to the CARLA Institutes. Includes complimentary high-speed internet connections and a hotel shuttle. You must make reservations up to three weeks prior to the institute to receive the best possible rate. 1) Click on the link above.

2) Click on "More Search Options" in the Room Reservation Section
3) Enter Dates of Stay
4) Then under Promotional Code enter the appropriate code:

University Inn

The University Inn is a short bus ride (or a long walk of 8+ blocks) from the Institutes. Its weekly rates and amenities, including kitchenettes in every room, onsite coin laundry, and high-speed Internet, would make this an economical choice for those staying more than one week. For reservations please call and ask for the CARLA Summer Institute rate.

University of Minnesota Dormitories

The most economical and basic housing option near campus is in Centennial Hall. Cost is $38.75/night for a single occupancy room.

Rooms do not include private bath. Internet access is available in the computer lab in the dormitory--wireless access is additional. Parking is available for an additional charge of $9 per day. Please note that you will need to pay for each DAY you wish to park. So, if you are staying 4 nights (Mon-Thurs) must enter 5 days if you wish to park Monday–Friday. Meals at the dorm can be purchased upon arrival. See the Centennial Hall website for more information about available amenities.

You can sign up for dorm accommodations and overnight parking online when you register for your summer institute. If you have already registered for a summer institute, you will need to contact the registration center by email. Please let them know that you have already registered, but would like to add a dorm reservation.
