Portland Public Schools has 12 programs that span schools at all grade levels in Spanish, Chinese, and Japanese languages. Each of these schools developed in different ways, resulting in different models of immersion (50:50; 90:10; one-way; two-way; full and partial). Presenters will share their program models, challenges while developing and sustaining programs, challenges while expanding at the building and district level, policy issues at the building and district level, implementation challenges at the building and district level, and parent, teacher, and administrator advocacy efforts to increase immersion options for all children.
