Sixth International Conference on Immersion and Dual Language Education

New! CARLA Immersion and
Dual Language Education Awards!

For the first time since CARLA began hosting this conference in 1995, we recognized two individuals at the 2016 convocation, a teacher and a scholar, who have distinguished themselves within the international field of immersion and dual language education.

Distinguished Teacher Award
- Maureen Curran Dorsano, French Immersion

This award is in recognition of a teacher who has made significant contributions in teaching and promoting bilingualism and cultural competency for all children.

The nominee must have at least five years' experience in a school-based immersion, bilingual, or dual language program involving a minimum of 50% subject-matter schooling through a second, world, heritage, or indigenous language at the preschool and elementary levels (PreK–5/6). Nominees are also eligible from secondary or post-secondary continuation programs for elementary immersion/dual language graduates that include a minimum of two subject courses in the immersion language.

The award will be presented at the 6th International Conference on Immersion and Dual Language Education in Minneapolis (October 20-22, 2016) to acknowledge the outstanding accomplishments of one immersion/dual language teacher from the international community with at least five years' teaching experience.

Distinguished Scholar Award

This award is in recognition of a leader in the field of immersion/dual language education who has made significant contributions in the areas of research, service, or teacher education.
