Checklist for Lesson 3

Formative assessment of this lesson will be done by students themselves and the teacher with a checklist when students present the post-task activity.

    1. Understand of Japanese ancient music, "雅楽(が がく):Gagaku", its musical instruments and some historical facts.   
    2. Use the new phrases for Question formation with the expressions of : about when/ what type of situation; いつ頃/どんな時に, what type of place; どんな場所/所 ,  what type of musical instrument; どんな楽器, the sentence in Japanese for Asking about Experience - "Have you ever listened ---?" "Yes, I have. / No, I have not."      
    3. Understand and use the Passive voice of Verbs such as  演奏される; to be played  Vs.  演奏する; to play. 
   

4. Use the sentence for:
     - Asking and Answering for why questions with the reasons: Plain-form statement + からです。     
     - Offering explanation: Plain-form statement + のでしょう/のだ/んだ。     
     - Expressing obligation:  Pre-ない form + なければなりません/なければならない

    5. Identify the name of "Gagaku" musical instruments correctly by listening to music and describe them in Japanese.  
   

6. Collect the necessary information about "Gagaku" visiting Internet sites to write a short descriptive passage in Japanese.  Then actively give my presentation about "Gagaku" and my reflection of how I feel about the ancient music integrated in Japanese new music.

    7. Answer questions in Japanese after I finish my short presentation.        
    Then write in Japanese and send my E-mail to this musician, Mr. Hideki Togi.
