Questionnaire for a survey of gender roles (eventually to appear in Russian and English) (20 minutes)

Take ten minutes to interview your group partner about the following three questions in Russian. Try to apply your knowledge of gender vocabulary and concepts to the response. Write down the responses in the space provided, then switch roles so that your partner can interview you.

1. Are you seen as a gendered individual at school? If so, what are your gender roles in this aspect of life? Possible themes to consider: choice of subjects that you are taking, career advice from instructors with regard to career goals that fit a man or a woman better.

2. Are you seen as a gendered individual at home? If so, what are your gender roles in this aspect of life? Possible themes to consider: parents’ perspectives on you as a gendered individual; siblings’ relationships with regard to gender.

3. What areas of activity are especially important to you? Possible activities may include sports, fashion, spending time with friends, or a favorite art. In what ways is this area of activity considered to be gendered by either you or institutions/individuals in your life? What are your gender roles in this area of life?
