Parents' Letter

Dear parents and families of the studentts in German 4/5

This past week the students began a unit, which they will be working on throughout this semester.  You may have already noticed your child searching for documents, such as awards, certificates, photos and etc., at home.  The students used these artifacts in the first lesson of the unit.  Using this information they constructed a personal timeline of their life and used theses documents to prove the date of the events on their timeline as well as their participation in them.

The unit continues this week as the students fill out a family pedigree chart.  I would appreciate any help you are able to give your German student with this assignment.  Your family's pedigree chart will probably look much like my family pedigree chart, that is with many incompletes.  This is perfectly acceptable as we will be using the research process for the unit by searching sources on the internet to try to find this information.

We call this unit "Geschichte Abenteuer" or history adventure.  This adventure begins with ourselves and our own family history.  We will conclude the unit with a study of famous German-Americans in order to understand the when and why immigrants, who spoke German, came to the United States.  If you have any comments or input on this subject and the unit please feel free to get in contact with me.

Again thank you for any assistance you are able to give your child.

Sincerely yours,
