Allan (1992) developed a test of test-wiseness for ESL students.
The test included stem-option cues, in which it was possible to match
information from the stem with information in the correct option; grammatical
cues, where only one alternative matched the stem grammatically; similar
options, where several distractors could be eliminated because they essentially
said the same thing; and item giveaways, where another item already gave
away the information.
