Tuition and Fees for Graduate-level Credit

Tuition for graduate-level credits depends on your status at the University of Minnesota.

Non-Degree Seeking Students:

For those not enrolled in degree programs at the University of Minnesota, the tuition cost is $572.17 per credit, PLUS approximately $100 in registration fees for two credits. The cost of tuition and fees is in addition to the initial registration cost through CARLA.

You can find a chart of tuition and fees for non-degree-seeking students or refer to the University's Onestop website for more complete information.

U of MN Degree-Seeking or Certificate Students:

A discount on the initial, non-credit registration cost is offered to students who will register for credit AND are currently enrolled in a University of Minnesota degree-seeking program or the following certificate programs:

Advanced Practices in Second Language Teaching Certificate
Dual Language and Immersion Education Certificate

Currently enrolled U of MN students will pay a discounted amount for an initial registration cost, but must also register AND pay for credits ($150; or $200 for an immersion institute). To receive this discount, registrants must indicate their U of MN student ID# on the registration form.

Registration for U of MN students wishing to take a CARLA summer institute for credit requires a two-step process:

  1. Students pay the initial registration cost of $150/$200 through CARLA’s registration system and then
  2. Students register for graduate-level credit online. Note: CARLA will need to give you special permission to register for credit. Contact Karin Larson (larso205@umn.edu) with your student ID# and the name of the institute(s) to get clearance to register.

Students will then be billed the cost of tuition and fees by the University of Minnesota Registrar’s Office.

Note: Those registrants who receive a discount, but do not register for credit by the time the institute begins, will be billed for the balance of the registration cost.
